The Mountain University – Center of Excellence at the Edolo Campus of the University of Milan – hosted numerous representatives of mountain areas at the international workshop on the “Circular Economy”.
The Mountain University was chosen by its German partners to host one of the six workshops on various sustainable priorities in order to engage with local stakeholders and outline a future Green Economy in the Alps. The aim of providing those involved in mountain areas with an opportunity for sharing experiences and interacting was successful: around eighty participants not only from the Alpine Region, but also from Rome and Berlin, were enthusiastic about taking part in this event to investigate and propose good practices for the development of a circular economy in mountain areas.
“The experience was very positive,” says Anna Giorgi, of the Mountain University, “the vitality and dynamism of the Alps are clear, with operators who are extremely pro-active, but also aware of the inherent fragility due to the lack of specific policies for mountain areas. In addition, the importance of networks and networking, co-operation and collaboration between the different stakeholders has emerged in all work tables – essential steps if modern innovative methods and tools are to make mountain areas competitive.”
UNIMONT is increasingly recognized at a national and international level as an innovative university campus for, and in, mountain areas that organizes events for discussion and comparison of good practices for the mountains.
