UNIMONT AT PONTE DI LEGNO FOR THE MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL SMART ALTITUDE PROJECT WITH THE REPRESENTATIVES OF 6 ALPINE STATES, THE MUNICIPALITY OF PONTE DI LEGNO AND THE ADAMELLO SKI CONSORTIUM

11th – 13th December 2019-  UNIMONT – centre of Excellence of the University of Milan in Edolo  and the Municipal Administration of Ponte di Legno hosted the meeting of the international Smart Altitude project, funded by the Alpine Space program, which involves representatives of 6 Alpine States. An opportunity to discuss sustainability, territorial development and winter tourism.

A three-day meeting to review the implementation of the Smart Altitude project aimed at defining strategies to reduce management costs and increase the sustainability of Alpine ski resorts. Three pilot areas involved: Les Orres (France), Madonna di Campiglio (Italy) and Krvavec (Slovenia) and some replication sites, including the Ponte di Legno-Tonale area.

On 11th December, for International Mountain Day, an event entitled “Winter tourism and sports in Alpine resorts: perspectives and future scenarios“, open to the public, was held during which project partners, the main local and regional stakeholders and the local population discussed prospects for sustainable development in a sector, that of winter sports, with great economic value for the mountains.

The event was opened by Ivan Faustinelli – Mayor of Ponte di Legno, Davide Caparini – Councillor for Budget, Finance and Simplification of the Lombardy Region, Anna Giorgi – CrC Ge.S.Di.Mont Coordinator and Maurizio Galavotti – Director General of ASST Valcamonica. The initial greetings were concluded by Michele Bertolini – Managing Director of the Ponte di Legno-Tonale Adamello Ski Consortium. Following this, Sonia Menici presented the activities of the consortium including the ice theater, enchanting the audience with the video of the Ice Music Festival. After, Davide Magnini – Ski-mountaineerer  and Skyrunner and Franco Brevini – Professor of the University of Bergamo and Writer, who presented ” Il Libro della Neve ” contributed.

International Mountain Day, celebrated in a mountain context with international stakeholders, provided an important opportunity for sharing and networking among those who live and work in the mountains.
