The Ge.S.Di.Mont. Research Center of UNIMONT – Centre of Excellence of the University of Milan has represented the University of Milan in Euromontana for several years. Euromontana is the European multisectoral association for co-operation and development of mountain territories which embraces 70 regional and national mountain organisations ofrom 20 European countries – including regional development agencies, local authorities, agriculture organisations, environmental agencies, forestry organisations and research institutes. Euromontana’s mission is to promote “living” mountains, integrated and sustainable development and quality of life in mountain areas.

The General Assembly of Euromontana take places once a year in order to create a great moment of cooperation and inspiration among the members as well as to plan the orientation of the work of the association to promote mountains and, every four years, to elect the Board. On that occasion, on Wednesday 18 November, Prof. Anna Giorgi –  Director of the Ge.S.Di.Mont. Research Centre of Unimont – Centre of Excellence of the University of Milan and President of the Degree Course in “Conservation and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas” – was elected member of the Italian Board for the next four years.

The participation in the Euromontana Board allows UNIMONT to strengthen the collaboration with the European level and promote new strategic international initiatives for the development and promotion of Italian and European mountain territories. Networking with international stakeholders is the best way to change the framework: from mountains as disadvantaged areas to mountains as territories for the promotion of sustainable development models. UNIMONT will share its experience and vision acquired over many years of work in the field, within in mountains, with young people and innovation, to promote a “new” and possible future!
