The establishment of a centre of excellence that promotes training, research and third mission activities becomes strategic to trigger the development of mountain areas: the UNIMONT hub is a representative example of this awareness.
The experience of the UNIMONT Centre of Excellence – University of Milan was published in number 110 April-May 2021 of Dislivelli.eu, which gathers examples of innovative training provision in mountain areas, capable of revitalising such territories taking into account the needs and priorities related to a specific socio-economic context.
UNIMONT, today, can be considered a real “living lab”: results obtained over the years show that an alliance between urban and mountain areas is possible and requires investment in human capital and innovative and specific training, research and technology transfer to trigger the development of mountain areas.
This strategic and innovative approach, the training programs that offer useful tools to address the issue of European planning and management and the new priorities of UNIMONT’s research activities were also discussed in the podcast “Il Punto” where the Honorable Alessandro Panza addressed issues related to the mountains, both challenges and opportunities, with Prof. Anna Giorgi.
