A course dedicated to sustainable tourism in mountain areas is part of the new Master’s degree MOUNTAINSIDE at the UNIMONT campus

The new Master’s Degree course in VALORIZATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF MOUNTAIN AREAS offered by the UNIMONT centre of the University of Milan (class LM-73) promotes the learning of methods, techniques and technologies for the analysis and evaluation of territorial and environmental resources regarding tourism in mountain areas

According to Prof. Giulio Senes, lecturer of the MOUNTAINSIDE Master’s degree course, active tourism is an increasingly important component of the economic development of mountain areas”. Its sustainability is linked to all the components of the mountain system: from infrastructures (paths and routes, greenways and other types of soft mobility), to hospitality, up to and including the whole territory. The landscape, nature, small villages, traditional and innovative agriculture represent the environment in which to encourage active tourism.

In the course “Infrastructures and Landscape Planning for Sustainable Tourism in Mountain areas” held by Prof. Giulio Senes, students will learn methods, techniques and technologies for the analysis and evaluation of territorial and environmental resources and for the analysis of the characteristics of active tourism in mountain areas. Students will then learn the key elements of a plan for the development of a soft mobility network for active tourism and its promotion. Finally, they will put these skills into practice through the creation of a “draft project” relating to a specific new case study.

The teaching activity of MOUNTAINSIDE is organized so as to promote interaction between students and teachers during lecture room and field lessons, individual and group work (cooperative learning) and the critical analysis of case studies.
