From 20th to 24th September, in Turin, Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, the largest international event dedicated to food organized by SlowFood, the Piedmont Region and the City of Turin in collaboration with the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and the involvement of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, returned as part of the activities planned for the year of Italian food.
The XII edition of Terra Madre is dedicated to the theme Food for Change and, through an interesting program of conferences, tastings, forums and workshops with the presence of farmers, breeders, artisans but also professionals and experts from the university and research world, focused on food as a powerful tool to start a slow, peaceful and global revolution.
With a view to triggering change in each of us, capitalizing and strengthening existing experiences through collaboration and cooperation, the Italian Mountain Lab project – FISR project, special supplementary fund for research of the Ministry of Education, was present at Terra Madre on Sunday, September 23rd at 3.30 pm, at the Sala Arancio – Lingotto Fiere.
In line with the provisions of national and international processes, the Italian Mountain Lab intends to promote the establishment of a high-level training and research laboratory to protect the Italian mountains, using the joint collaboration of the Mountain University (UNIMONT), Center of Excellence of the University of Milan, the University of Eastern Piedmont and the University of Tuscia. The three Italian Universities work together, through research, experimentation, technology transfer and training, in order to support local institutions and promote the development and enhancement of mountain areas.
“Our University, with its lecturers, has participated for some time in the event Terra Madre, as part of the Turin Salone del Gusto. We welcomed the invitation to present the Italian Mountain Lab project, which, in addition to the development of mountain areas, is very sensitive to the issue of biodiversity, developed in the research fields of our anthropologists and geographers” notes Professor Cesare Emanuel, Rector of the University of Eastern Piedmont. Professor Anna Giorgi, coordinator and scientific manager of the project Italian Mountain Lab adds “The Italian Mountain Lab Project promotes an alliance between Italian universities, starting from the virtuous experience of UNIMONT, promoting the training of young people capable of transforming the specific resources of the mountains, including their gastronomic traditions in value and wealth through innovations in methods and processes“.
