GIS DAY 2022: the synergy between UNIMONT and LIMES FARM is strengthened

On Wednesday 16 November 2022, the UNIMONT Centre team of the University of Milan took part in the workshop dedicated to GIS DAY 2022, organized by Limes Farm and Assocamuna, with the aim of finding out more about GIS applications in society.

On Wednesday 16 November 2022, the UNIMONT Centre team of the University of Milan took part in the workshop dedicated to GIS DAY 2022, organized by Limes Farm and Assocamuna, with the aim of finding out more about GIS applications in society.

The event, which took place at the Limes Farm hub in Cividate Camuno (BS), was introduced by Diego Zarneri, General Manager of Assocamuna, who underlined the importance of celebrating GIS culture and technology on international GIS day also in Valle Camonica.

Erik Tiebgo, GIS developer & CTO at NERAtech, presented the different areas of application of GIS, while Fabio Maffezzoni, Digital Spatial Planning, and Cassandra Federici, GIS Analyst and Urban Planner concentrated on the geographical culture that led to the transition from geography maps to GIS technology.

The speech by Marina Bernardi, Innovation & Business Lawyer, dealt with legal aspects related to the use of GIS, while Luca Giupponi, Researcher of the UNIMONT Centre of the University of Milan, shared some examples of scientific studies conducted in UNIMONT using GIS technology. Finally, Maria Grazia D’Urso of the University of Bergamo presented examples of the practical use of GIS in emergency situations, such as earthquakes, fires and natural disasters.

At the end of the workshop, during the networking aperitif at Bar Terre Camune, a stimulating discussion was established between participants and speakers during which interesting ideas to be developed emerged, as well as some curiosities about the use of GIS.
