December 2024, the Department for Regional Affairs and Autonomies of the Council of Ministers is organizing two important events to celebrate International Mountain Day. Among the protagonists UNIMONT, the Alpine hub of the University of Milan, which will present the research report “White Paper on the Mountains” during the events in Rome (11th December) and in the towns of Frabosa Soprana and Frabosa Sottana, in the province of Cuneo (13th-14th December).
On Wednesday 11th December, the celebrations for International Mountain Day will be held at the Sala Polifunzionale in Largo Chigi in Rome, with speeches by the Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies Roberto Calderoli and representatives of national and international organisations. Professor Anna Giorgi, head of the University of Milan UNIMONT hub, will also be present.
On Friday 13th and Saturday 14th December, events will move to Frabosa Soprana and Frabosa Sottana, where meetings and in-depth panels on sport, the environment and innovation in the mountains will be held. The main topic, indicated by FAO for 2024, is “Mountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation, adaptation, youth and beyond”. On this occasion, Prof. Giorgi and Dr. Stefano Sala will present the White Paper on the Mountains during the meeting “Which data, which scenarios – Presentation of the White Paper on the Mountains”, together with stakeholders of national importance.
International Mountain Day reaffirms its importance as a platform for dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing mountain regions, facilitated by the contributions of institutions, experts, and local communities.
