UNIMONT and Regione Lombardia in Passo Maniva for the TranStat project to explore possible futures of mountain territories – the voice of youth

On Tuesday 17 December in Passo Maniva (BS), UNIMONT, the pole of excellence of the Milan University, organised in collaboration with the Lombardy Region the first meeting with local students within the framework of the Interreg Alpine Space TranStat project.

The TranStat project facilitates Alpine communities traditionally linked to winter tourism to think and support transition paths and effective solutions to adapt to climate change. After an initial workshop dedicated to ‘desirable futures’ with stakeholders, a further opinion was sought from young people aged between 18 and 25 who live in and inherit the territory.

After a moment of restitution on the main aspects that emerged from the analysis of territorial data conducted by UNIMONT, the boys and girls participated in a co-creation session imagining possible future scenarios for their territories and validating those proposed by their predecessors.

Facilitated by a group of experts, the boys and girls present created a real manifesto of the future they would like for Passo Maniva that will be reported to local, regional and international policy makers. A complex but stimulating exercise according to the participants, who recognised themselves as potential agents of positive change.

The project, which will end in 2025, foresees further work in the coming months. Those who wish to participate can learn more about what has been done so far on the project website and get in touch with the contact persons of the project partners at local level.
