The Mountain Education and Innovation Manifesto (MEIM) a strategic document that is the result of a consultation involving more than 100 young people from 28 Countries around the world, containing recommendations for promoting sustainable development for mountains, presented by the University of Milan – UNIMONT member of the Mountain Partnership, during the “Climate and Biodiversity” week at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The consultation was a moment of training, discussion and dialogue on some strategic issues that characterize sustainability and life in mountain areas: “Climate change”, “Biodiversity”, “Interconnection, virtual and physical mobility”, “Entrepreneurship and innovation”. It consisted of two moments of online work in September 2021, and a final presentation of the official document at the event “Connecting Youth and Mountains, Creating a lively Future”, organized by UNIMONT at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Manifesto idea was born from the belief that education plays a vital role in providing people with the means to build a lively future in mountain regions. For that reason, the MEIM aims to support policy makers and education representatives worldwide to develop policies and curricula and schools programs in line with needs expressed by the youth living in mountain areas.
