Professor Marina Brambilla, Rector of the University of Milan, recently assigned Professor Anna Giorgi the mandate for “Promotion of the educational, research and third mission development project connected to the valorization of mountain territory“. The assignment highlights the University’s increasing attention for mountain issues and consolidates its commitment to promoting sustainable development and valorization of these areas through specific mountain initiatives, coordinated by the UNIMONT mountain hub of the University of Milan.
Anna Giorgi comments: “I thank the Rector for the recognition, interest and attention for the work carried out in recent years by the UNIMONT hub, now accredited with all national and European working groups dealing with mountains, and ready to consolidate and strengthen its work, expanding its network and collaborations, from a local to a European level, to develop activities and projects appropriate for the ecological and economic challenges of mountain areas by promoting innovative and sustainable solutions. The valorization of mountain areas is a crucial challenge for a country like Italy, considering that more than 35% of its territory is mountainous. Working in a context that promotes synergy between training, research and support to institutions for environmental protection, as well as the social and economic development of mountains, together with many colleagues, Italian and foreign students, in addition to researchers, technicians, project managers and collaborators of the UNIMONT team, is a unique and exciting professional experience”.
