A.R.C. Orobie starts from the identification of rural buildings representative of mountain architecture, expression of the landscape and of the cultural and traditional values of the area. Intervening on some of them through a planned and integrated maintenance logic aims to support the start of high-altitude production activities that are sustainable from an economic, landscape, naturalistic and social point of view.
PHASE I (2014)
The first phase allowed to elaborate scientifically the Multi Attribute Analysis System (MARCOS) and thus identify the risks for any of the buildings, to propose an applicable and transferable method to support the local policies, to collect economic evaluations on sustainable conservation budgets (current value/expected value after the start of work), and to define the priorities for the maintenance’s interventions scheduled.
PHASE II (2015)
In the second phase of the project, training courses for contractors and workers were organized, giving particular attention to the traditional construction techniques and to the construction site in mountain protected areas management (certified suppliers). They were activated in this phase 9 construction sites for the “restoration” of the most representative architectural and functional structures in order to restart productive activities. The MARCOS method was validated. Residents, tourists, managers and agricultural and tour operators were actively involved (bottom-up approach) and the project has attracted great attention in the relevant institutions (supra-local and regional level), and has supported the growth of new young companies.
