From 7th to 9th May 2025, Trento will host the event “Ready for the future: opportunities and challenges for sustainable development in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site”, a capacity building initiative dedicated to the analysis of the main drivers of change and the identification of sustainable strategies for mountain areas. UNIMONT – Alpine Hub of the University of Milan has been invited to participate and will contribute to the three-day event as follows.
On 7th May, Professor Anna Giorgi, Head of the UNIMONT Centre of the University of Milan, will present the “White Book on the Mountains”, a research report promoted by the Department for Regional Affairs and Autonomies of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, aimed at providing a complete overview of the current state of the Italian mountains.
On 8th May, Dr. Stefano Sala will present the European project MountResilience, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, presenting climate change adaptation strategies and nature-based solutions for the sustainable development of European mountain areas.
On 9th May, Prof. Giorgi will take part in the final round table together with leading experts such as Mara Nemela (Fondazione Dolomiti UNESCO), Massimo Bernardi (MUSE – Trento Science Museum), Tommaso Dal Bosco (Federbim), Andrea Ferrazzi (Confindustria) and Carlo Runggaldier (Cooperativa Turistica di San Vigilio). The meeting will encourage a discussion between institutions, research bodies and economic operators to outline future opportunities and practical strategies for the Dolomites.
The event represents a unique opportunity to deepen the role of research, training and innovation in the sustainable management of mountain areas, aligning the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with local needs.
Anyone interested in participating can submit their application here by April 1st.
