On 3 and 4 May, the first international workshop of the nine Living Labs involved in the European Interreg Alpine Space TranStat (Transition to a Sustainable Ski Tourism in the Alps of Tomorrow) took place in Megève, France.
UNIMONT – Center of excellence of the University of Milan – participated in the meeting as an Italian partner responsible for the implementation of the Italian Living Labs identified in the territories of Valmalenco and Maniva. The aim of the TranStat Alpine Space project is to analyze the problems mountain areas are facing and to develop possible shared solutions that will enable the areas of the various ski resorts to address future challenges with a view to the sustainable development of the area.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Lombardy Region, the Mayor of Chiesa in Valmalenco, Petrella Renata and the Director of the company Maniva Ski, Lucchini Stefano, who met with the spokesmen of Kranjska Gora and Rogla for Slovenia, Megève and Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse for France, Sankt Corona and Großes Walsertal for Austria and Surselva for Switzerland.
During the meeting, Living Labs discussed the main issues they are facing and were involved in a workshop in which they worked on the main factors of change that influence transition processes in ski areas and local communities. Divided into three working groups, the representatives of Living Labs analyzed these driving forces in three separate and equally important areas: climate change, socio-economic fabric and governance and active community participation.
The TranStat project will involve the nine Living Labs in pilot activities leading in 2025 to the elaboration of a strategy for the sustainable development of each mountain area.
