The establishment of the Federico II Penitentiary University Complex is an initiative that sees the largest University in the South as a promoter of human dignity, in social re-education aimed at reintegration, relationships with the community and with the outside world.
For this purpose, in the “P. Mandato” Penitentiary complex of Secondigliano, a saffron cultivation activity has been started around which various university educational courses have been developed, which are aimed in particular at inmates enrolled in the courses of Herbal Sciences and Technologies and Enogastronomic Sciences, pursuing the re-educational principle of a sentence and concretizing the role that a university institution can have in society.
In this context, on Friday 21st October, Dr. Valeria Leoni gave a lecture on saffron quality and good production practices, presenting the results of recent work published by the research group of the UNIMONT – University of Milan Centre, under the guidance of Prof. Anna Giorgi.
The activity was hosted by teachers Mariano Stornaiuolo, P.U.P. activity coordinator and delegate for the Department of Pharmacy, and Maria Emanuela Rigano, Delegate for the Department of Agriculture at the P.U.P.
